ChatGPT “Scheduled Tasks” Feature Is Now Free: What You Can Do

OpenAI has made its scheduled tasks feature, previously available only on paid plans, available to free accounts as well. Users will be able to schedule up to 3 tasks to create future-dated or recurring operations, and manage processes such as news aggregation, reminders, and data tracking from the new panel.

Prepared task templates can be shared with other users via a link. Plus and higher-tier subscribers, meanwhile, will be able to connect ChatGPT to their Gmail, Slack, and GitHub accounts and trigger automated actions after specific activities.

Why it matters

While this change removes the requirement for a paid subscription for users who want to try scheduled operations, it limits free accounts to a three-task framework. This makes the feature accessible for various workflows, from reminders to regular information aggregation; however, it remains unclear whether this limit will be sufficient for intensive use. The ability to share templates via a link turns task setup from a personal process into one that allows others to benefit from ready-made workflows. By contrast, reserving Gmail, Slack, and GitHub connections for Plus and higher-tier subscribers maintains the difference between free and paid accounts in terms of access to automated operations.
