OpenAI has added a feature for creating custom stickers to ChatGPT’s image-generation tools. Users can turn a photo, idea, or multiple images into stickers; add or remove elements from images, apply different styles, and use transparent backgrounds.

The stickers created can be transferred to iMessage and WhatsApp using the “Add to chat apps” option or saved to the gallery. The package must contain at least three stickers for WhatsApp transfer. Users can reportedly access the feature by selecting Stickers in the Images section of ChatGPT’s sidebar.

Why it matters

This feature moves image generation beyond the content-creation stage and directly into the messaging flow, allowing ChatGPT users to share the images they create without editing them again in a separate app. The ability to make changes to a photo, idea, or multiple images means that creating stickers is no longer limited to a single source and expands the personalization options. While support for iMessage and WhatsApp determines which platforms the feature can be used on, the requirement of a package containing at least three stickers for WhatsApp limits the sharing of individual images. What remains unclear is whether this transfer method will be supported in the same way by other messaging apps and how practical the process of using the created stickers will be.
