OpenAI has rolled out ChatGPT’s virtual try-on feature globally. Users can tap the Try On button in shopping results to upload a selfie or full-body photo and see clothes and accessories on themselves; the same visualization can also be done with screenshots or product images taken from the internet. OpenAI aims for the feature to make ChatGPT more effective in the process from product discovery to the purchase decision.
The feature is based on the ChatGPT Images 2.5 model, which offers more natural lighting, richer texture, and faster image generation. Favorites, another newly announced feature, allows users to save products they like; saved products and try-on images are stored in the Library section.
Users can also search for similar purchasable products by describing a style or uploading a celebrity photo. The move reflects OpenAI’s effort to pull pre-purchase processes onto its platform in a space where Google and Pinterest are present.
