ChatGPT for Financial Services Unveiled
A modern financial office desk

OpenAI introduced ChatGPT for Financial Services, a product that combines embedded financial data for financial services teams with the reasoning capabilities of GPT‑6 Astra. A design partnership with Morgan Stanley and Evercore enabled the solution to focus on investment banking and equity research. The companies identified reliable data access and the production of high-quality output as teams’ most important needs.

The product includes datasets covering earnings call transcripts, financial statements, company fundamentals and private-company information from providers such as Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News and Crunchbase. The data is indexed and hosted on OpenAI’s infrastructure, improving access speed and accuracy while allowing users to trace figures and claims back to their sources. Teams can use these datasets without entering into separate contracts or establishing separate connections. OpenAI is also working on unified sign-on and authorization integrations with S&P Capital IQ, LSEG, MSCI, Dow Jones Factiva and Moody’s.

The company said it had made MCPs commonly used in financial services directly usable in the product and offered 50+ connections, including Datasite, Box, Preqin, FactSet and Intapp. GPT‑6 Astra can be used for information retrieval, financial reasoning and output generation; it can examine tables, figures and notes in financial documents and turn analyses into documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Users can create interactive charts from analyses, while administrators can publish Excel, Word and PowerPoint templates to have valuation models, research notes and presentation books prepared in the institution’s format. OpenAI said it would further train its models to find, interpret and use this data.

The product uses ChatGPT Enterprise’s SAML SSO, SCIM and role-based access controls. By default, institutional data is not used to train models; data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Retention periods, audit logs, application permissions and information barriers can be managed. The product is offered to eligible financial institutions; institutions can also develop custom applications using the OpenAI API.

Why it matters

The product aims to combine data collection, verification and output preparation in investment banking and equity research within the same workspace; for this reason, it is particularly relevant to the workflows of corporate finance teams. Data that can be traced back to its sources makes it easier to audit analyses prepared by AI, while ready-made templates help preserve internal institutional standards. The large number of connections and single sign-on capabilities indicate an effort to establish links with the external systems used by teams without separate access processes. At the same time, in the product’s actual use, how permissions will be restricted among teams will become important alongside the information barriers and retention policies set by administrators. The announcement does not explain how the outputs generated by this structure will fit into institutions’ existing audit processes.
