Google has added a new feature to its AI-powered video tool Google Vids that automatically converts Word, PDF and Google Docs files into video summaries. The system identifies key points in documents to create a script, and adds visuals, backgrounds and voiceovers. Users can later change the script, language, voiceover and visuals. The feature has begun rolling out to subscribers of Workspace’s enterprise and education plans, as well as Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra.
Why it matters
This feature combines, within the same tool, the production steps between sharing document content as text and presenting it in video format. Therefore, particularly for those using Workspace’s enterprise and education plans and Google AI subscribers, it changes how the process of reorganizing long-form content with scripts, visuals and voiceover elements is carried out. The ability to change the script, language, voiceover and visuals after automatic generation allows users to review the resulting video and adapt it to the content. However, no details have been shared about which points in documents will be highlighted or how accurate the automatically generated summaries will be across different types of content.
