Introduction
NASA captured the total solar eclipse seen in Greenland, Iceland and Spain on Aug. 12, 2026, from the ground, the air and space.
Developments
The phases of the eclipse, the Sun’s corona and a solar prominence were photographed in San Millán de los Caballeros, Spain.
During the partial eclipse in Maine, the International Space Station, with its seven-member crew, was recorded passing in front of the Sun.
Details
NASA astronaut Jessica Meir also captured images of the eclipse while the station was at an altitude of 262 miles; at the peak of the eclipse, the Moon covered approximately 18% of the Sun. NASA’s WB-57F research jet, meanwhile, passed through the eclipse’s shadow at an altitude of 50,000 feet.
