Meta has announced Muse, an AI agent that handles work and projects for users in the US. The assistant, which uses Meta AI and the Muse Spark model, works with email, calendar, health, fitness, smart home, food, shopping, and event services. It can send emails, book travel, pay bills, fill out forms, prepare plans, turn recipes into shopping lists, send invitations, and shop through Link, powered by Stripe. Muse runs in an isolated Secure VM; it does not see passwords or payment information, and data is not shared with ads. It is free on the web, iOS, Android, and WhatsApp, and will soon come to glasses. Power costs 20 dollars per month, while Maximum costs 100 dollars per month; integrations with Shop Pay and 1Password are planned.
Why it matters
Muse highlights a model in which AI goes beyond providing information to performing tasks on users’ behalf across different digital services. It therefore directly concerns users who carry out tasks such as email, calendar, shopping, payments, and planning in separate apps and want to combine them through a single assistant. While its isolated environment provides a framework for protecting passwords and payment information, bringing services together in the same system also keeps data access and user control on the agenda. Alongside access limited to the US and free use, the paid options on offer leave open, for now, the question of which features are available to which user group.
