Meta’s new AI assistant Muse is now available for Mac. The app can interact with files, messages, calendars, notes and emails through their native apps. Muse was released for mobile devices and the web earlier this month and quickly rose to the top of the US App Store charts. Access can also be controlled optionally in the Mac version; Meta says Muse will request user approval before sensitive actions.
The desktop app arrives as competition among consumer-facing AI agents intensifies. While the industry views these agents as potentially the future of computing, the developments are expected to affect the application, software-as-a-service and, eventually, hardware sectors.
Consumer-focused agents also include those that provide services through messaging. One of the early examples in this field, Poke, was sold to Cognition in July. Instinct, which is being discussed in technology circles, is reportedly seeking new funding at a $10 billion valuation. Muse and Instinct introduced voice calling this week. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in the announcement of the Mac app that the team had been releasing products quickly.
