Meta launches enterprise AI platform and appoints MongoDB CEO to lead new venture
A modern data center corridor

Meta announced on Monday that it had launched the “Meta Enterprise Platform” initiative to expand its AI products for businesses and enterprise customers. Chirantan “CJ” Desai, CEO of database software company MongoDB, was appointed to lead the new initiative. The company aims to offer the entire technology stack for businesses and developers:

  • Muse
  • Meta Business Agent
  • Muse API
  • Muse Code

Meta plans to turn these tools into products and services that companies can use in their own operations. The initiative could help Meta generate revenue from its AI investments. MongoDB shares fell more than 17% following Desai’s unexpected departure. MongoDB appointed Dev Ittycheria, who previously held the position, as interim CEO while it continues its search for a permanent CEO. Meta said AI will transform the way organizations innovate, grow, serve customers and run their operations. Muse is a personal AI assistant launched this month that can perform tasks such as sending emails and booking travel.

Why it matters

This step shows Meta’s effort to turn AI into a revenue-generating service area not only in individual user experiences but also in companies’ day-to-day workflows. Offering the products together aims to encourage companies to connect with Meta’s tools on a broader scale across their development, customer service and operations processes; for this reason, the initiative is of particular interest to enterprise customers and developers. Desai’s move reveals that competition is being waged not only through technology but also through the executive teams that will bring this technology to the enterprise market. The same change has also created uncertainty at MongoDB in terms of leadership continuity and investor confidence. How Meta will offer these tools under which commercial model and the extent to which businesses will adapt them to their own operations, however, has yet to become clear.
