Geely’s new charging system reaches 2.25 MW peak power
Electric car at a charging station

Geely has introduced its fifth-generation charging station developed for electric cars. The station has a peak power output of 2,250 kW (2.25 MW), while in a test conducted by the company with the Lynk & Co 10 and Zeekr 001, the battery charge reached 70% from 10% in 4 minutes 30 seconds and 97% in 8 minutes 40 seconds.

The Xingrui PowerMind software predicts the battery temperature 30 seconds in advance and regulates power transfer. Geely aims to keep the average temperature below 55 degrees and the peak temperature below 65 degrees. The company stated that the results depend on the car’s power acceptance, battery temperature, initial charge level and energy supply, and that independent comparative tests in different climates have not yet been conducted.

Why it matters

This development shows that the factor determining charging times in electric cars is not only the station’s capacity; the vehicle’s energy acceptance and battery management also affect the outcome. Software that monitors temperature during high-power transfer brings the balance between fast charging and the battery’s operating conditions to the center of the technical discussion. Therefore, the announced figures are meaningful in terms of the models compatible with the station in question and the specified test conditions; it cannot be concluded that the same results will be achieved with different vehicles. The key unanswered question is how the system will perform in different climates, in independent comparative tests and with varying initial charge levels.
