A new flight test was conducted as part of HÜRJET’s radar integration. According to Haluk Görgün, HÜRJET P2, equipped with ASELSAN’s MURAD AESA radar, detected HÜRJET P1 during the flight and established a radar lock. The test was limited to the air-to-air detection and tracking phase. No statement was made regarding a missile launch or the target being hit; the trial does not indicate a completed combat capability.
Why it matters
This development shows that HÜRJET should be assessed not only as a flight platform but also together with the radar infrastructure to be used in air-to-air missions. The integration of ASELSAN’s MURAD AESA radar indicates that a certain stage has been reached in the aircraft’s target detection and tracking chain; however, this stage alone does not constitute operational combat capability. The issue is important both for those following HÜRJET’s development process and for those interested in radar integration and air combat capabilities. The key point that remains open is the extent to which this capability will be validated under different conditions and what mission scope it will reach beyond the detection and tracking phase.
