Airbound, which develops autonomous drone technologies, secures $37 million investment
Delivery drone gliding through the air

Airbound, which develops autonomous drone technologies, has raised 37 million dollars in funding led by Greenoaks. With DoorDash, Lachy Groom, Lightspeed and Humba Ventures participating in the round, the company’s total funding has reached approximately 50 million dollars.

Founded in 2023, Airbound will use the investment to expand its drone fleet and production capacity and broaden its delivery network in India. The company is targeting healthcare, e-commerce and retail deliveries with drones capable of vertical takeoff and horizontal flight; it transports medical samples between hospitals with Narayana Health. It plans to establish a network in Andhra Pradesh with a capacity of 10 thousand flights per day.

Why it matters

The investment provides Airbound with the resources to move beyond being a startup focused solely on technology development and scale its delivery operations. This could directly affect the scope of drone use in time- and access-sensitive processes in healthcare, such as transporting medical samples between hospitals; e-commerce and retail deliveries, meanwhile, are expanding the technology’s commercial applications. Increasing fleet and production capacity in India shows the company’s aim to carry out different types of deliveries within the same operational structure. However, the pace at which the planned network in Andhra Pradesh will be established, the extent to which its daily flight capacity will be used, and how this model will be applied to deliveries outside healthcare remain open questions.
