Crusoe raises 3 billion dollars in investment at a 30 billion dollar valuation
A modern data center corridor

AI-focused data center venture Crusoe has raised 3 billion dollars in a funding round co-led by Atreides Management and Valor Equity Partners. With Mubadala Capital also participating, the round increased the company’s valuation to 30 billion dollars.

Founded by Chase Lochmiller and Cully Cavness in 2018, Crusoe will use the investment to expand its AI data centers and cloud infrastructure and meet the growing demand for GPU and AI computing power. In addition to data centers housing high-performance GPUs, the company offers the Crusoe Cloud platform, which enables customers to access GPU computing power through the cloud. As part of its energy-focused approach, it operates in regions where energy is available at low cost and in large quantities.

Why it matters

The investment shows that the GPU computing power needed for AI applications is being addressed not only through software platforms but also directly through data center and energy infrastructure. The development concerns both customers that need high-performance GPU capacity and users who want to access this capacity through the cloud. Crusoe’s preference for regions where energy resources are available at low cost and in large quantities demonstrates that access to energy is as decisive as hardware in data center investments. The open question is which regions the allocated funds will be converted into infrastructure in, how quickly and at what scale; this process will also determine the scope of the capacity to be offered through Crusoe Cloud.
