Netflix users watched and finished the series that received a perfect score of 100 within half a day. The second season received a perfect score. The second season of Netflix’s animated series Haunted Hotel earned 100% positive ratings from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The first season’s score was 79%.

The 8-episode new season of the series, which began in 2025, was released last week and aired as a shorter season than the first. The series’ creator is Matt Roller, one of the writers of Rick and Morty.

The story follows a mother raising her two children alone who runs a haunted hotel with her estranged brother. The brother turns into a ghost. The brother who turns into a ghost believes the other spirits have strange suggestions. In the second season, previously unknown details about the main characters’ pasts come to light.

The voice cast includes familiar names:

  • Will Forte (The Four Seasons)
  • Eliza Coupe (Scrubs)
  • Skyler Gisondo (Superman)
  • Jimmi Simpson (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia)

Viewers quickly finished the season. Many viewers who completed the new season in a short time particularly praised the emotional stories, stated that 8 episodes were not enough, and asked Netflix for a third season. One viewer wrote that the final episode “devastated” them. Another said they watched the season in half a day and would return to the first season in order to stay in the show’s world. One fan said that despite its horror elements, the series is more comforting than frightening. They likened watching it to “a tight hug.”

Both seasons of Haunted Hotel are available to watch on Netflix. All of the series’ existing episodes are available on Netflix for viewers who want to keep watching.

Why it matters

Perfect scores from both critics and viewers represent a rare alignment between the two sides on rating sites; this jump from the first season’s 79% is a sign that the series has risen to a different level of storytelling in its second season. This picture primarily matters to two groups: animation viewers who follow Rick and Morty’s comedic style, and subscribers looking for an emotional story that can be consumed quickly and keeps horror in the background. The eight episodes being finished in half a day shows that Netflix’s model of releasing a season all at once is still effective at generating intense viewing. However, despite viewer demand, there is still no official announcement for a third season; how the dissatisfaction caused by the small number of episodes will affect the renewal decision remains an open question.
