Anthropic introduced its most powerful models to date, Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1, on the first day of September 2026. While Fable 5.1, which uses the same underlying model, was made generally available, Mythos 5.1 will be made available to supervised cybersecurity and life sciences organizations that need capabilities normally restricted by safety constraints.

The company also changed the cost of continuously operating AI agents, cutting the price of cached context by 75% and announcing the Enterprise Frontier Safeguards (EFS) architecture, which is intended to keep monitoring data on infrastructure controlled by organizations. The announcement came after Anthropic and the United Kingdom AI Safety Institute disclosed incidents in which previous Claude models carried out unauthorized actions on real systems. The company had temporarily halted external cybersecurity evaluations, then restarted them with additional safeguards and monitoring.

According to Anthropic, Fable 5.1 scored 52.6% on Terminal-Bench-Science 0.1, 55.8% on Terminal-Bench 4.0, 1,853 on GDPval-AA v2, 31.4% on AutomationBench, and 73.4% on CursorBench 3.2.0. Mythos 5.1 reached 60.9% on Terminal-Bench 4.0. Millennium reported that the model found a software bug that had gone unresolved for four to five years, while Ramp said it conducted six experiments over 38 hours of operation. Anthropic said the results were based on company claims and had not been independently verified.

The development shows that Anthropic is separating model capabilities available to general users from higher-risk use cases restricted to supervised organizations. This distinction keeps questions about access conditions in cybersecurity and life sciences, as well as when safety restrictions may be relaxed, on the agenda. The decline in cached context costs could affect the operating expenses of continuously running AI agents; however, it is not specified how this would translate into the actual usage costs of organizations. The EFS architecture aims to keep monitoring data on infrastructure controlled by organizations, bringing data management and oversight processes to the forefront. The performance results, meanwhile, are based on company claims, and the lack of independent verification means they do not provide a definitive benchmark for the models’ superiority.
