The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (TCMB) published the Household Expectations Survey data for August 2026. According to the results, households’ annual inflation expectation for 12 months ahead rose by 0.64 points from the previous month to 45.58 percent.

Food and Energy Prices Stood Out in Expectations

The survey results showed the expenditure items for which participants felt the highest price increases over the past year and which they expected to rise further in the coming period. Food, and fuel and energy were identified as the product groups whose prices were thought to have increased the most and were expected to remain at the highest level of price increases over the next 12 months. The share of those who considered food the product group with the highest price increase fell by 0.4 points from the previous month to 39.3 percent.

Expectation for Housing Price Increases Declined

A limited decline was observed in households’ expectations regarding prices in the real estate market.

The expected increase in housing prices at the end of the next 12-month period fell by 0.36 points from the previous month to 32.13 percent. This development showed that households anticipated a slowdown in the pace of price increases in the real estate market.

Gold Ranked First Among Investment Preferences

A safe-haven preference gained weight in participants’ choices regarding how to allocate their assets. The share of those who said they would buy gold, which ranked first among investment options, rose by 1 point from the previous month to 41.3 percent. The share of those who said they would invest in homes, shops, land and similar real estate, which ranked second, fell by 1.4 points to 37.1 percent.

Sectoral Expectations Moved in Different Directions

Across the TCMB data overall, market participants’ expectations and households’ expectations appear to have moved in different directions. According to the recently released TCMB August 2026 Sectoral Inflation Expectations data, market participants’ inflation expectations declined, while the upward trend in the inflation expectations of households and the real sector stood out.
