Fintech startup Félix has raised a total of 200 million dollars in funding, including 87 million dollars in equity investment and 113 million dollars in debt financing. QED Investors, Castle Island Ventures, Switch Ventures, Contour Venture Partners and Endeavor Catalyst participated in the Series C round led by Andreessen Horowitz; the debt financing came from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund.
Founded by Manuel Godoy and Bernardo García in 2020, Félix enables immigrants in Latin America to send money to their families via WhatsApp. The company will use the new funding to expand its team, develop artificial intelligence, engineering and financial infrastructure, and enter new markets in Latin America.
Why it matters
The fact that the financing consists of both equity and debt components shows that Félix is basing its growth plan not only on investor capital but also on a source of funding that must be repaid. This structure will require the company to manage its financial obligations while accelerating investments in its team and infrastructure. The development raises questions for immigrants in Latin America who send money to their families via WhatsApp about which new markets the service will reach and how the user experience will change. Resources allocated to artificial intelligence and financial infrastructure stand out as part of the company’s goal of scaling its existing business model; however, Félix has not yet disclosed which countries it will enter or how these investments will expand the scope of its service.
