MSI XpertStation WS300: A Review of 748 GB Unified Memory and 20 PetaFLOPS of Power on the Desktop
Illuminated computer hardware

Based on NVIDIA’s most advanced DGX Station architecture, the MSI XpertStation WS300 brings data-center-class GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra hardware to the desktop form factor. The workstation combines a 72-core Grace CPU with a Blackwell Ultra GPU, communicating over an NVLink-C2C connection that provides 900 GB/s of bidirectional bandwidth. The system delivers 20 petaFLOPS of processing power at FP4 precision and is used for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing workloads.

748 GB Unified Memory Architecture

One of the WS300’s standout features is its 748 GB of coherent memory accessible by both the CPU and GPU. On the GPU side, there is 252 GB of HBM3e memory offering 7.1 TB/s of bandwidth, while the CPU uses 496 GB of LPDDR5X memory (SOCAMM modules) with 396 GB/s of bandwidth. This unified memory architecture enables trillion-parameter artificial intelligence models to run locally on a single desktop system.

The NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra (B300) GPU is manufactured using TSMC’s 4NP process technology. The dual-die design contains 208 billion transistors. The graphics card features 160 SM units and 640 5th-generation Tensor cores. The card, which does not provide display output, comes with seven NVDEC and seven nvJPEG decoding engines. The GPU can also be divided into seven separate independent partitions through Hardware-level Virtualization (MIG) support.

Advanced Networking Support and Power Infrastructure

The system uses the NVIDIA ConnectX-8 SuperNIC network card for data transfer. Two 400GbE QSFP112 ports provide a total network bandwidth of 800 Gb/s. This infrastructure facilitates connecting and clustering multiple XpertStation units. On the storage side, 2 x 2 TB PCIe 5.0 NVMe M.2 SSDs directly connected to the CPU and operating in a RAID 1 configuration are dedicated to the operating system. Two M.2 slots supporting PCIe 6.0, managed through ConnectX-8, are left vacant for expansion.

The system, which cools the CPU, GPU, memory modules and ConnectX-8 unit, features a liquid cooling block with a heat dissipation capacity of 1400 W. Power is supplied by a 1600 W ATX power supply with 80 PLUS Platinum certification. Continuous power input in the 115-240V range is required for the hardware to operate at full performance.
