Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar combines Gemini’s live dialogue capabilities with low-latency video streaming to provide enterprise users with near-real-time visual communication. The system responds with a dynamic avatar while listening to and seeing the conversation, delivering lip synchronization, natural expressions and smooth conversational transitions. It aims to make digital interactions more engaging in use cases such as customer service and interactive presentations.
Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar is available today in Gemini Enterprise. The feature supports characters with different appearances, voices and forms of expression, and can process visual and audio inputs simultaneously. Through asynchronous tool calling, it can continue the conversation while retrieving data in the background and carry out complex tasks, such as registering a hotel guest, through uninterrupted dialogue.
Built-in multilingual speech-to-speech synchronization adapts lip movements and expressions across 97 languages while preserving video quality. Organizations can create their own avatars from a reference image in addition to using ready-made avatars; custom avatar generation is currently available only through enterprise allowlisting. Outputs are made detectable with a SynthID watermark embedded in the audio and video. Details are available through the model card and API documentation.
Why it matters
This development combines AI interaction for enterprise users with a video interface featuring facial expressions and lip synchronization. Processing visual and audio inputs together, along with uninterrupted speech during tool calls, makes it possible to keep information retrieval and response steps in customer conversations within the same flow. Support for synchronization in 97 languages broadens the scope by enabling organizations serving customers in different languages to use the same infrastructure; however, the fact that the custom avatar creation option is limited through allowlisting shows that access is not open to everyone. While the SynthID watermark helps detect whether content was artificially generated, how organizations will incorporate this system into which business processes and under what controls remains an open practical question.
