Jaden Caradine knew at the age of eight that he wanted to become an engineer, but he took a circuitous route to that goal. Before enrolling at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and finding his field of specialization, he served as a mechanic in the United States Marine Corps for five years, spending four of those years in Japan. He was then accepted into a Pathways internship at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia.
Growing up in the Salt Lake City area, Caradine began snowboarding at the age of four and took up rock climbing shortly afterward. Caradine, who says he loves science because it is useful rather than something to learn on his own, decided to become an engineer as a child while building with Lego.
During his service in Japan, he read books on decision-making, career planning and long-term thinking.
