Volvo has refreshed its small SUV, the XC40, for MY28 rather than completely redesigning it. The model was first introduced in 2017 and updated for the 2023 model year. Akhil Krishnan, acting head of the 30 and 40 Series at Volvo Cars, said they had created the best version of the model with improvements to design, technology and safety.
The front and rear LED lighting on the 2028 Volvo XC40 has been updated. While the “Thor’s Hammer” daytime running light signature at the front has been retained, the matrix LED clusters now have a more minimalist appearance. By reducing unnecessary bulk at the vehicle’s corners, the designers made the SUV look smaller and less aggressive.
The main change in the cabin is a new 11.2-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. Google’s integration of Android Automotive OS and Google Automotive Services continues with Gemini. A cardamom-colored leather interior option paired with open-pore wood trim has also been added.
Safety equipment has been enhanced with new front, rear and corner radars, a forward-facing camera, ultrasonic sensors and software featuring an improved 3D view for the combined 360-degree parking cameras. The cargo area also includes practical dividers, while new wheels are available. Production will begin later this year, with sales starting next year. The electric EX40, which receives the same design changes, will not be offered in the US market.
