TikTok is rolling out voice comments, polls, photo carousels and Live Photo comments to increase comment engagement. Users will be able to share voice comments of up to one minute below videos; this feature will be made available globally to users aged 18 and older over the next month. Content will be reviewed through automated systems and human moderation under the Community Guidelines.
Creators will be able to add polls with up to five options to comments they post on their videos and set the poll duration. Users will also be able to share up to nine photos in a single comment. Live Photo comments have also begun rolling out globally.
Why it matters
This step moves TikTok’s comment section beyond short text, creating more diverse forms of participation around videos. Polls will allow creators to collect audience opinions through options within the comment feed, while audio- and image-supported comments will enable users to express their responses in different ways. The change concerns not only those who post content but also creators who follow comments and manage community engagement. Since the new formats expand the types and volume of content that must be moderated, the question of how automated systems and human review will manage this workload remains open. The fact that voice comments are being made available only to adult users also shows that TikTok is initially implementing this format with an age restriction.
