Qualcomm has announced its new audio processor, Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2. The platform targets camera-equipped earbuds, audio-enabled smart glasses and future wearable devices, as well as traditional headphones. While on-device AI processing capacity has been doubled compared with the previous generation, performance reaches 0.128 TOPS. Energy consumption is reduced by 40%, while the area occupied on the motherboard decreases by 30%. Ziad Asghar said the platform was developed for real-time translation, context-aware assistants, personalized hearing and audio- and vision-based multimodal AI applications. The camera will be used to perceive the surroundings and provide context to the assistant rather than for action footage. The application will depend on the device’s hardware, software and AI services.
