Qualcomm introduces two new smartphone chips with an emphasis on AI

Qualcomm unveiled two flagship smartphone processors focused on artificial intelligence features at its annual Snapdragon Summit: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. The company said the processors would improve personalization in AI agents.

  • New sensing hubs can run small models of up to 200 million parameters on the device. This enables a personal writer to be used locally, speakers to be distinguished, and memories to be created based on user habits.
  • The processors support an agent that operates entirely through voice input and voice output.
  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 includes a new accelerator to run models more efficiently.
  • The Extreme version can run a 30-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts (MoE) model locally. The model Apple unveiled at WWDC in June had 20 billion parameters.
  • The new CPU provides pixel-level control for cameras, improved stabilization, and motion detection. The Extreme version supports 8K 60fps and 4K240 video recording, as well as the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec.
  • Both processors enhance voices and reduce noise with AI; Qualcomm’s voice bubble technology separates the user’s voice from ambient noise during calls.

Motorola announced the Motorola Signature 27, which uses Snapdragon Gen 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6; the phone was said to be going on general sale this year. Qualcomm is working on more than 40 AI devices. The report said the view that users may prefer their phones over dedicated devices for AI had gained strength.

Why it matters

This development shows that AI functions are moving beyond being limited to predefined commands on the phone toward a more personalized structure capable of processing the user’s voice, habits and conversational context. The aim is for the phone, rather than dedicated AI devices, to combine different tasks—from voice interaction to image processing—on the same hardware. This may require phone manufacturers using the new processors to design not only performance but also the on-device AI experience as one of the core elements of their products. Voice separation, noise reduction and advanced video capabilities could particularly affect use cases such as calls and content creation. However, the open question is what software features phone manufacturers will turn this hardware capacity into and to what extent users will adopt these functions.

Background

Qualcomm is not a new name in the FikirPilot archive: we have published 2 reports mentioning the name in the past 90 days; the most recent was dated 25 September 2026.

Term: agent

An AI agent is software that calls tools and carries out multi-step tasks to achieve a goal, rather than producing a single response.
