You Will Be Able to Show Posts You Are Tagged In on Your Instagram Profile

Instagram has announced a new feature that allows posts users are tagged in to be added to their main profile grid. Users will be able to display posts from other accounts alongside their own, reducing the need to repost friends’ vacation, concert, or night-out photos. Posts can be added to the grid from a DM notification, the post itself, or the “Posts You’re Tagged In” tab, and can be removed whenever desired. Added content will remain on the original account; removing it will only hide it from the main profile grid and will not delete it from the tagged posts tab. The feature is part of the steps for managing the profile view. Instagram also introduced the ability to change the order of posts in June.

Why it matters

This change turns the main profile grid from a space made up solely of the user’s own posts into a showcase that can also be selectively curated with other people’s content. Those who want to collect shared moments such as vacations, concerts, and nights out with their friend groups on their profiles will be able to include them in their personal view without republishing the same image. Keeping the content on the original account separates the source of the post from the user’s profile preferences. The fact that removing a post from the grid does not delete the tag also means that visibility management and tag management will remain separate actions. Viewed together with the sorting option introduced in June, Instagram is giving users more direct and detailed control over profile customization.
