According to The Guardian, the whereabouts of hundreds of migrants sent to France under the “one in, one out” agreement signed between London and Paris in the summer of 2025 cannot be traced. Human rights organizations and French politicians say that only 200 of these people remain in contact with the French authorities, while the others have begun living undocumented in Europe. Among the missing are at least 41 people whose ages cannot be determined and who say they are unaccompanied children.
English Channel timeline
It is illegal to hold children in adult detention centers. The agreement allows migrants who cross the English Channel illegally to be returned to France, in exchange for asylum seekers whose claims are deemed legitimate being admitted to BK. Since September 2025, around 32 thousand people have crossed into BK, while the number sent back has remained at around 1400.
Home Office timeline
The BK Home Office rejected the claims, insisting that everyone sent had been an adult. It is unclear whether the agreement, which expires on October 1, will be extended. According to the British media, Paris wants to end the agreement and seek an arrangement covering BK and the whole of the EU; Laurent Nunez briefed Shabana Mahmood.
