Uber invested $10 million in fleet management startup Carrum Mobility in a Series B round to increase the supply of vehicles and drivers. This was Uber’s second investment in the startup, following its $7 million investment in January. Founded in 2024, Carrum manages approximately 5 thousand 100 vehicles and more than 18 thousand drivers in India. Following the investment, its valuation rose to $168 million, while Uber’s stake in the company increased to the mid-10% range. Carrum plans to expand its fleet to approximately 11 thousand vehicles over the next 12 months, enter new cities and develop its technology platform.
Why it matters
The move shows that Uber is supporting its growth capacity in India not only by generating demand through its app, but also by partnering with an organization that manages the supply of vehicles and drivers. Carrum’s management of a broad fleet and driver network in a short period shows that the investment is directly linked to operational capacity. The increase in Uber’s stake in the company, together with the continuity between the two investments, strengthens Carrum’s role in this partnership. However, expansion into new cities and the development of the technology platform leave open the question of whether the existing fleet management model can be applied at the same scale under different operational conditions. For this reason, the development is of interest to those following both Uber’s India strategy and the position of fleet management startups in transportation supply.
