Fatih Erbakan made headlines in Diyarbakır with the words, “Our mother tongues are, for each and every one of us, as lawful and rightful as our mothers’ pure milk.” The Chairman of the New Welfare Party held a press conference in Diyarbakır, where he had come to hold meetings. The meeting was in Diyarbakır.
He began his speech with these words. Saying, “The path of sedition does not pass through Diyarbakır,” Erbakan stated that the path of right, justice and Islamic unity passes through this city. Diyarbakır is not the center of sedition. He expressed that the city is the center of a thousand years of unshakable brotherhood.
The use of the mother tongue is the most natural right. Stating that differences of language and lineage are God’s will, Erbakan said, “Our mother tongues are as lawful and rightful as our mothers’ pure milk.” He said the same words in Bitlis and Van as well. He argued that the mother tongue should be taught in private schools and, if possible, in state schools.
Erbakan also touched on the process. Assessing the “Terror-Free Turkey” process, Erbakan claimed that no one could rival Milli Görüş when it comes to reviving brotherhood. He recalled the past. Saying that they had equipped Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia with factories, Erbakan referred to the burned villages and the young people taken to the mountains, and, also citing the white Toros scandals, stated that the state should approach its citizens with compassion, not with a stick. He said they would establish the understanding of a “waiter state” instead of a “warden state.”
Erbakan also criticized the trustee appointments. Noting that this practice disregards the will of the nation, Erbakan stated that those punished were once again the oppressed people.
