A modern electric toothbrush

Dyson has unveiled CameraJet, its first electric toothbrush combining camera and flossing functions as part of its personal care range. Priced at $499, the product will go on sale starting September 1, 2026, in ceramic blue and ceramic pink options. The camera in the brush head can stream live footage from inside the mouth to a phone via Wi-Fi.

The camera footage is analyzed by artificial intelligence using a feature Dyson calls Gap Optical Targeting. The system processes 28 live images per second to identify gaps between the teeth and sprays a cone-shaped jet of oral care liquid into these areas within 100 milliseconds of detection. Images are not stored on the device or sent to the cloud. The wider spray is intended to remove plaque at low pressure and be gentler on tooth enamel and gums.

The brush heads feature soft outer bristles for the gumline and firmer inner bristles for removing stains. The head oscillates approximately 1.000 times per second to improve effectiveness, while an RFID tag tracks when it needs to be replaced and notifies the user every three months. Pricing for replacement heads has not been announced.

CameraJet’s 12.5ml oral care liquid reservoir can be refilled and charged at the station in three seconds. An air bladder in the reservoir maintains consistent pressure even when the device is held upside down. Although the product works with regular toothpaste and oral care liquid, Dyson also plans to offer its own non-foaming products to improve the camera’s visibility.

Why it matters

CameraJet offers a care approach that takes toothbrushing beyond mechanical cleaning by monitoring the inside of the mouth in real time and automatically intervening in the areas it detects. While this setup is particularly relevant to users who want to carry out care aimed at the spaces between their teeth and the gumline in a more controlled manner, its phone connectivity creates an additional digital layer in daily use. The fact that images are not stored on the device or transferred to the cloud is one of the design’s key elements in terms of the privacy of oral data; however, how live transmission will affect the user experience remains unclear. The price of replacement heads could be decisive in the product’s total cost of use, and this price has not yet been announced.
