Images from the ongoing filming of The Batman 2 in Glasgow have increased curiosity about Robert Pattinson’s return as Batman. The videos show a chase in which Gotham police pursue the Batmobile, while a stunt double representing the character to be played by Scarlett Johansson was seen in the front seat. It has not been announced which role Johansson will have in the film; director Matt Reeves has not confirmed the claim that she will play the comic book character Gilda Dent.
Sebastian Stan and Brian Tyree Henry, known for Marvel productions, have also joined the cast in undisclosed roles. The story will take place during the winter and will begin shortly after the first-season finale of The Penguin. Colin Farrell will return as Oz Cobb, while Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright will reprise their roles as Alfred Pennyworth and Commissioner Jim Gordon, respectively. Cristin Milioti will not appear as Sofia Falcone.
The film, whose release date was postponed from October 2025, will hit theaters on 18 February 2028. Filming is expected to continue for several more months.
Why it matters
This development shows that the information circulating about the film is not all equally reliable: since Johansson’s role and the characters played by the new cast members have not been disclosed, rumors should not be confused with confirmed cast information. The fact that the story will begin shortly after the finale of The Penguin raises the question of how the narrative connection between the two productions will be established for viewers who followed the series. Cristin Milioti’s absence as Sofia Falcone shows that the presence of some of the series’ key characters in the sequel is not automatically guaranteed. The postponement of the release date and the continuation of filming indicate that viewers should regard the film not as a completed production, but as a project still in production whose details are continuing to take shape.
