Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, is planned to meet with representatives of political parties in the coming days regarding the Monitoring Commission planned to be established under the “framework law.” The meeting is expected to address the commission’s number of members as well as its working procedures and principles.
The AK Parti is of the view that the commission should be narrower in scope rather than broadly participatory like the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission; it is stated that the number of members could be 15, 17, or 20. Whether members will be taken from parties that do not have a parliamentary group is expected to be clarified at the meeting with Kurtulmuş.
Meanwhile, AK Parti members Efkan Ala, Abdullah Güler, and Ömer Çelik met with Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar, members of the DEM Parti İmralı Delegation, to assess the process.
The law adopted on August 10 stipulates that the commission shall monitor the activities and be able to make recommendations.
