Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Numan Kurtulmuş delivered the opening lecture titled “Turkey Model, National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy” at the 2026-2027 Academic Year Opening Ceremony held at Selçuk University’s Sultan Alparslan Cultural Center. Kurtulmuş said that with its more than 60 thousand students, the university is one of Turkey’s most important centers of education.
Stating that the biggest problem of the Republic’s first century was terrorism, Kurtulmuş said that this scourge, which lasted approximately 50 years, cost tens of thousands of lives and, by the most modest estimates, over 2 trillion dollars. Describing the Terror-Free Turkey process as a common cause of 86 million people, Kurtulmuş noted that past resolution attempts were obstructed by dark centers from inside and outside, sometimes through political assassinations. He emphasized that significant progress had been made through the convergence of the state’s reason with the nation’s conscience, and that the security forces’ struggle at home and abroad had played a major role in this. He also noted that the determination voiced by the President two years ago has become state policy.
Kurtulmuş stated that in the process that began with the Gaza occupation, Israel has attacked many countries in the region, and said, “Israel will not be allowed to establish a ‘promised land’ in this geography.”
