DEM Party spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan, at a press conference she held following her party’s MYK meeting, assessed the steps that need to be taken after the framework law.
Doğan described the law as “the first step in a sequence of laws”; she said that although they have objections, it establishes an important political and legal ground, but is not sufficient on its own. Calling on Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, Doğan asked that the Monitoring Commission be established as soon as possible through an inclusive and pluralistic method that will ensure the representation of other political parties. She demanded that Kurtulmuş complete his talks with the parties and that the procedure and working principles be shared with the public in a transparent manner.
Doğan, asking for uncertainties such as when the law will enter into force and the functioning of the upper board and sub-boards to be eliminated, stressed that the process must gain pace without being delayed. She stated that the Peace and Politicization Coordination Office is important because it will ensure Öcalan’s effective participation in the process. Doğan noted that the struggle for peace and democracy can only rise with social support, and that the resolution or non-resolution of the Kurdish question will affect the next 100 years.
