New stills have been released from The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, the eagerly anticipated Brad Pitt film written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by David Fincher. Netflix shared the stills. In the film, scripted by Quentin Tarantino, Brad Pitt returns to the role of stuntman Cliff Booth, whom he portrayed in the 2019 film Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.

It will be screened starting November 25. Following a two-week run in IMAX theaters worldwide, the film will be released on Netflix on December 23 and will be available to watch directly on the platform in Turkey without a theatrical release.

Set 8 years after the events of the first film, the story follows Booth as he tries to adapt to an entirely different Hollywood. The story takes place in 1977. In the stills, Pitt is seen driving a race car on a dirt track and alongside Debicki in a bar.

The cast is shaping up as follows. The film stars Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis and Karren Karagulian.

The first film grossed $377 million worldwide. It earned Pitt his first Oscar for acting. Tarantino had previously explained that he did not take on directing duties because he did not want his final film, which will bring his career to a close, to be a sequel.

Why it matters

Tarantino’s unwillingness to conclude his directing career with a sequel places the project in a separate category — one he wrote the screenplay for but does not count as the final link in his own filmography; Fincher’s stepping in is the result of this boundary. The first film’s $377 million worldwide gross and the fact that it earned Pitt his first Oscar for acting form the backdrop to Netflix positioning the production with expectations big enough to show it in IMAX theaters. The move to the platform immediately after the two-week theatrical run is a concrete example of a release model that brings theatrical audiences and subscriber audiences together for major productions. For viewers in Turkey, the outcome is clear: since the film will not come to theaters, it will be available to watch only on Netflix on December 23. The question that remains unanswered is what kind of identity a story written by Tarantino will take on under Fincher’s direction.
