Another Stephen King Story Is Being Adapted Into a Series
A foggy London street

Prime Video has given the green light to a 6-episode miniseries adapted from Stephen King’s short story “Crouch End,” published in 1980. The production, which shares the story’s title, will be filmed in the United Kingdom.

In the series, film star Doris Freeman will turn to the police, claiming that strange events lie behind her husband’s disappearance. As Police Inspector Ted Vetter leads the investigation, it will be examined whether the events involve murder or a supernatural dimension. Tom Shankland will direct the series.

Why it matters

This adaptation stands out for bringing a Stephen King short story published in 1980 from a one-off narrative to an episodic television structure. The six-episode format leaves open the question of whether the disappearance case will remain solely an investigation or whether the story’s unsettling elements will become the defining axis of the narrative. The differing positions of Doris Freeman and Ted Vetter make it possible to follow the events from both personal and legal perspectives, making it important which point of view the series uses to build its tension. Filming in the United Kingdom and Tom Shankland’s direction stand out as the principal elements shaping the production’s creative framework following the adaptation decision.
