Stephen King gave top marks to the new adaptation of Carrie directed by Mike Flanagan. The author of the 1974 novel called the miniseries “fantastic” on Threads, saying its portrayal of social media is “shocking and true.” The supernatural horror series, starring Summer H. Howell as Carrie White, will premiere on Prime Video on October 7.
The series follows Carrie, who has been isolated from the outside world by her mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan), as she begins attending public high school following her father’s unexpected death. Carrie faces a viral bullying scandal, social media pressure, adolescence and her emerging telekinetic powers. The cast also includes Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah and Matthew Lillard. Joe Hill also said the trailer made him cry.
The work was adapted by Brian De Palma in 1976, Katt Shea in 1999, David Carson in 2002 and Kimberly Peirce in 2013.
