Square announced on 24 September an integration that will allow businesses to connect their Apple Business accounts to the Square Dashboard. Addresses, business hours and phone numbers can be synced to place cards in Apple Maps; logos and links for menus, ordering, delivery or appointments can be added. The feature is available to eligible businesses that have verified their Apple Business listing, use Square and have a physical location.
The initial rollout will begin in the following countries:
- Australia
- Canada
- France
- Ireland
- Japan
- Spain
- United Kingdom
- US
Türkiye is not on the list, and no date has been given for local availability.
Why it matters
The integration aims to reduce inconsistencies in addresses, hours and contact details by allowing businesses with physical locations that use Square to update their business information on Apple Maps from a single management platform. The ability to add logos and links for menus, ordering, delivery or appointments to place cards on Apple turns a map listing from a page that merely shows a location into a channel through which customers interact with the business. For this reason, the development concerns both teams managing the online visibility of businesses that use Square and customers searching for businesses through Apple Maps. However, Türkiye’s exclusion from the initial rollout and the lack of a date for local availability leave open the question of when businesses here will be able to benefit from these features.
