MediaTek Introduces Dimensity 9600m
Microprocessor on a circuit board

The Dimensity 9600m, which MediaTek has added to its flagship lineup, will be used in the vivo X500, while the Pro and Pro Max models will feature the 9600 Pro. Manufactured using TSMC’s 3 nm N3P process, the chip retains the performance and architecture of the Dimensity 9500: one 4.21GHz C1-Ultra (2MB L2), three 3.5GHz C1-Premium cores (1MB L2), four 2.7GHz C1-Pro cores (512KB), 16MB L3, and 10MB of system cache. Support for Arm Mali-G1 Ultra MC12, APU 990, LPDDR5X (10667MHz), and 4-lane UFS 4.1 remains unchanged. The Imagiq lineup offers 320MP, 8K 60fps, 4K 120fps with EIS, and 4K 60fps cinematic recording. New features include Dimensity Scheduling Engine v3.0, 185fps with neural rendering, Gemini Nano 4, Qwen 3.5 Omni 4B, and a camera agent that provides photography advice.

Why it matters

The fact that the Dimensity 9600m retains the same core processor, graphics, memory, and storage infrastructure as the previous model indicates that this version differentiates itself through scheduling, artificial intelligence, and software features rather than raw hardware. This positioning directly concerns users weighing the differences between the vivo X500 and the Pro series: the standard model gets the 9600m, while the higher-end models are reserved for the 9600 Pro. High-resolution imaging, high-frame-rate video, and on-device artificial intelligence support show that the chip is focused on camera, gaming, and generative artificial intelligence use. However, the technical details do not explain how much of a difference the new scheduling engine, neural rendering, and camera agent will make in daily use compared with its predecessor or the Pro version. As a result, the distinction between the models is not clear from the announced features alone.
