Instagram’s Archive feature removes old photos and videos from the profile grid without deleting them and stores them in a section visible only to the account owner. Followers are not notified when content is archived; it can be returned to the profile without creating a repost.
To find archived posts:
- Open the Instagram app.
- Go to Profile from the bottom-right corner.
- Tap the Menu icon in the top-right corner.
- Open Archive.
- Switch to Posts archive from the top section.
- Find the photo or video you are looking for.
Since the Archive section also contains stories, if the photo is not visible, you need to check that Posts archive is selected. Open the post and use the Show on profile option from the three-dot menu in the top-right corner to restore the content. There is no need to re-upload it or write a caption. The content is not added to the top as a new post; it retains its original publication date and former position on the profile. A photo archived in 2023 does not count as a new post when it is restored in 2026.
