IFA 2026 showed that artificial intelligence is moving beyond chatbots and content tools to become embedded in the devices around us. Under “The AI MOVAment,” MOVA focused on enabling devices to understand their surroundings and make decisions, showcasing 22 global product launches and 15 technologies across an area of more than 1,700 square meters.
TactiPercept adds touch sensing to robot vacuums alongside cameras and LiDAR. Thanks to 128 pressure sensors, a flexible bumper and real-time feedback, the robots can change their movements based on the surfaces they touch, move along walls and attempt to free themselves when stuck.
AquaSonar uses ultrasonic communication instead of Wi-Fi. The transmitter integrated into the charging station maintains the pool robot’s connection without the need for a surface buoy. Users can manage the device’s status and controls with a simpler setup.
UltraTrim 3.0, introduced with LiDAX Ultra Gen 2, aims to mow along walls and fences with a 0 cm gap. UltraTrim 4.0 offers heights of 4, 5 and 6 cm with its outward-extending adaptive arm.
AstraX detects obstacles with AI-powered imaging, while its two-fingered attachment can pick low-hanging fruit. At IFA 2026, MOVA demonstrated the arms of multiple AstraX units operating in sync.
Why it matters
These demonstrations show that AI is moving beyond software limited to responding to commands and into devices that collect data from the physical environment and adjust their behavior accordingly. The convergence of different sensing methods, such as touch, ultrasonic communication and imaging, within the same product approach shows that robots are being positioned not merely as moving machines but as systems expected to adapt to environmental conditions. This is particularly significant in terms of the goal of reducing users’ need for setup, connectivity and day-to-day intervention. However, how consistently the demonstrated features will work across different surfaces, obstacles and usage conditions, and how the coordination of multiple robots will be managed in practice, remain open questions.
