Google has announced new features for Motion Assist and Find Hub in this month’s feature update for Android devices. Motion Assist, which resembles Apple’s Motion Cues feature, aims to reduce motion sickness by displaying points on the screen that respond to the vehicle’s movements.
With the Find Hub expansion, users will be able to remind Gemini where they left important items they rarely use, such as their passports. Gemini will save the location and allow users to add a photo; users will later be able to ask Gemini for the location or find the item in the “remembered items” tab in Find Hub. The feature will be available on devices running Android 16 and later in countries where Gemini and Find Hub are supported.
Another new feature, Guided Vision, will help users read small text on labels and menus or find a specific ingredient in a cupboard by using the phone’s camera in Gemini Live. It will provide audio feedback if the framing is unsuitable and will be available on devices running at least Android 9.
Chat themes have been added to Google Messages. In addition, starting today, everyone in a chat will be able to create and edit a shared note through Google Keep; the feature can be used for shopping lists or trip planning.
Why it matters
This update allows Gemini on Android to move beyond being merely a question-answering tool and connect to workflows involving the physical environment and everyday objects. Features for remembering the locations of items later and finding small text or specific objects with the camera are changing how users—particularly those who frequently forget items or need to distinguish visual information—interact with their phones. While Motion Assist aims to make screen use inside vehicles more comfortable, the Google Messages and Keep integration is expanding chats into a space for collaborative planning and list-making. However, the impact of the features will not be the same for all Android users; some functions will remain dependent on specific Android versions and countries where Gemini and Find Hub are supported.
