Belkin has introduced four new SureFind models, its first tracking devices to work with Apple’s Find My and Google’s Find Hub networks. Compatible with Android and iOS, the devices do not require an additional case or accessory, unlike AirTag and Google’s Pixel Tag; they come with straps or keyring loops integrated into their designs.
The most affordable model, the $14.99 SureFind Spot, comes with a metal keyring loop. The $24.99 SureFind Loop Cable Tag features a design that can also be used as a carrying loop and converts into a short USB-C to USB-C charging cable. Both models are expected to go on sale this month.
The credit-card-sized $26.99 SureFind Card has an IP68 rating and, according to Belkin, can withstand “prolonged submersion” in water. However, since Bluetooth does not work underwater, the device’s last known location will be used to find it.
The most expensive product in the range, the $39.99 SureFind Wallet Stand, attaches to mobile devices with magnets, functions as a foldable stand and protects payment cards from wireless scanning by blocking RFID signals. The Card will go on sale this month, while the Wallet Stand will be available in October.
Why it matters
The series’ compatibility with the networks of the two major mobile ecosystems reduces users’ dependence on their phone brand when choosing a tracker; however, which network can be used still depends on the device’s iOS or Android compatibility. The integrated strap and rings eliminate the need for additional accessories, directly tying the products’ use with keys, bags or similar belongings to their design. The differences between the models are not limited to price: the card form factor, the carrying ring that turns into a charging cable and the wallet stand that integrates with the phone address different usage needs. The fact that location tracking does not work instantly underwater on the Card, despite its water-resistance claim, reveals the practical limitation of this feature. The sales schedule being split by model means that all options will not be available at the same time.
