Meta has made available in many countries, including Türkiye, a feature that allows its AI assistant Meta AI to join public conversations in the Threads feed. Users can ask questions about current topics and request information or recommendations by using the @meta.ai tag in their posts. Meta AI’s responses are published publicly in the feed and can also be viewed by other users who see the same post.
Meta AI was also made available in Threads’ Direct Messages section in July. With the new feature, the assistant’s use has expanded from private messages to public conversations.
Why it matters
This step means that responses from AI will no longer be limited to only the person who requested them on Threads. People who use the feature, as well as those who see the same feed without being directly involved in the conversation, may encounter the content of the responses. Unlike its use in private messages, public visibility causes questions and requests for recommendations to move beyond the realm of personal communication and become part of the shared feed. This means interactions aimed at seeking information and recommendations on Threads need to be assessed alongside the broader group of users who see the responses; however, it remains unclear how users will manage this visibility and how public responses will change the way the feed is used.
