Google has announced that it has begun rolling out five new updates aimed at making Android phones more accessible, useful and customizable. The features, announced on September 1, 2026, include tools to reduce motion sickness, help blind and low-vision users understand their surroundings, and remember where important items are located.
“Motion Assist” places a bubble on the screen that responds to the vehicle’s movement to reduce the discomfort experienced by people using their phones in moving vehicles. Users will be able to start the feature automatically, add it to Quick Settings, and change the bubble’s shape, color and transparency. The feature is being made available to Android 17 users. Apple reportedly introduced a similar feature called “Vehicle Motion Cues” in 2024.
Google’s Gemini-powered “Guided Vision” tool will help with tasks such as reading small print through the phone’s camera, seeing a menu in a dark restaurant and identifying objects around the home. If the camera is not positioned appropriately, it will also provide voice guidance telling users to move or rotate the phone or center the object. The feature is coming to phones running Android 9 and later in countries where Gemini is available.
The “remembered items” section to be added to Find Hub will allow users to tell Gemini where they put their belongings and have it save that information; photos can also be added. With the Google Keep integration in Google Messages, shopping lists and vacation notes can be shared and edited within chats. Users will also be able to add backgrounds, photos and colors to chats; text bubbles will change accordingly.

The updates show that Android is moving beyond being a platform that merely adds new functions and is instead working to respond directly to different usage challenges. The expansion of accessibility options at the system level, particularly for blind and low-vision users and those who use their phones in vehicles, concerns the everyday experience of these groups. Tools for remembering belongings and editing lists within chats, meanwhile, increase the phone’s role in personal organization; however, their usefulness depends on users having access to countries where Gemini is supported and to the relevant Android versions. The fact that Apple already offers a similar motion-reduction feature shows that this area has become a shared usability issue between the two major mobile platforms, while it remains unclear to what extent and on which devices Google will make the features available.
