India’s rise in the global semiconductor industry continues. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India aims to become a rising hub in global semiconductor manufacturing by attracting international investment and developing its domestic capacity.
The determination was clearly visible at the summit. According to The Straits Times, the number of Singapore-based companies participating in the SEMICON India Summit rose from 10 in 2024 to 27 in 2026. Investment also materialized. Since 2024, Singaporean companies have signed contracts worth more than 180 million US dollars in India and have invested over 20 million US dollars. Companies also transferred their expertise. Among the companies bringing their expertise in production equipment to India are also companies specializing in materials and testing:
- Dou Yee Enterprises
- Specmax Techno
- Industrial Vision Technology
India’s partnerships are not limited to Singapore; the parties with which New Delhi is developing cooperation also include the following countries and regions. The areas of cooperation are as follows:
- Taiwan
- United States
- Japan
- Europe
The partnership covers two areas. According to Reuters, the partnership announced in September 2026 between Tata Electronics and the Dutch company Nexperia covers semiconductor manufacturing in the city of Dholera in Gujarat, as well as assembly and testing operations in Assam.
Why it matters
This table shows that the goal of India, which is seeking a place for itself in semiconductor manufacturing, is no longer merely a political intention, and that it is moving forward with concrete steps that are turning into contracts and facilities. The fact that Singaporean companies have nearly tripled their participation in the summit in two years and signed contracts exceeding 180 million dollars indicates that firms seeking a position in global production networks are beginning to take India seriously. The Tata Electronics and Nexperia partnership covering both manufacturing and assembly and testing demonstrates that the country is aiming not for a single link in the value chain but for several stages at once. The parallel partnerships pursued with Taiwan, the United States, Japan, and Europe are a sign that New Delhi does not want to remain dependent on a single partner in this field. That said, it is not yet clear how many of the signed contracts will turn into actual production and when the facilities will reach full capacity.
