Audi unveiled its compact electric model A2 e-tron in Paris to compete with Chinese automakers and increase its sales in Europe. The company’s sales, which have been declining for the past two years, also fell 7% in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period last year.
The A2 e-tron, which consumes 12.8 kWh per 100 kilometers, offers a range of up to 646 kilometers on a single charge. The model is planned to be produced in Ingolstadt, with deliveries scheduled to begin in December 2026 and a starting price of 38 thousand 200 euros in Germany.
Why it matters
The significance of this development lies less in Audi’s technical capacity in the electric vehicle market than in the company’s search for a position in a compact and more accessible segment under pressure to recover its declining sales. The model’s goal of competing with Chinese automakers places the balance between price, range and efficiency for electric vehicle customers in Europe at the center of the company’s competitive strategy. Producing the model in Germany is important not only in terms of the new model’s place in the product lineup, but also in terms of how Audi uses its own production infrastructure. The key question that remains, however, is whether this model can generate demand on a scale capable of reversing Audi’s sales decline in Europe after the planned deliveries begin, and whether Audi’s response to competitive pressure will remain limited to a single model.
