Key Party Chairman Ağıralioğlu used the words, “They have turned the country itself into a shirt of fire.” He answered questions on a live broadcast. Criticizing the fund issue being called a “crisis” on a live broadcast on Sözcü TV, Ağıralioğlu said that this was a “fund scandal,” and that the government was presenting the problem as if it had emerged before it and as though it were helping the victims. He stated that the priority was to find those responsible. He said that those who turned off the alarms, as well as those who paved the way for companies that should not have been allowed to enter the stock exchange, should also be investigated. He added that those who used their influence to seek advantage and those who resigned saying “I will not consent to this” should also be investigated.
Rejecting the “he was not aware” defense made for President Erdoğan, Ağıralioğlu stated that whether the President knew or did not know about the fraud in the 18.5 billion-dollar fund and in the stock exchange, which is 4 times its size, the situation was grave. He did not accept the defense. He noted that the fund issue could be managed by saying “he was not aware.” He said, however, that the responsibility of the Presidential Government System could not be managed.
According to Ağıralioğlu, 467 thousand people were victimized in the fund and 4 million people in the stock exchange, and together with their families, 15 million people were affected. This is not an ordinary robbery. He said that although the Minister of Treasury and Finance had warned of an abnormality 10 months ago, the mechanism did not work. He emphasized that turning into a country where talking about corruption is forbidden would lower the quality of Turkish democracy. He expressed that the standards of democracy and law should be discussed.
