Ahead of IFA 2026, Acer introduced the DualPlay Mini concept, which can be used as both a handheld console and a mini laptop. The Steam Deck-like device features a rotating 8-inch display that flips around when the control buttons are opened, revealing a compact, backlit keyboard.
The device’s technical specifications have not been disclosed, but it is reportedly set to use Intel’s Arc G3 processors for portable gaming devices and have the same cooling architecture as the Predator Atlas 8. It is not yet known whether the DualPlay Mini, which can run Windows and connect to an external display, will be released.
Why it matters
The DualPlay Mini’s standout feature is its attempt to combine handheld console and mini laptop use in a single body; this approach is of interest to those who want to use a physical keyboard or an external display while gaming. The ability of the display and controls to rotate shows that the device is aimed not only at gaming but also at more general Windows-based uses. However, the lack of disclosed technical specifications currently prevents evaluation of factors that are decisive in purchasing decisions, such as performance, battery life, weight and ease of use. The fact that the product is still at the concept stage also leaves open questions about whether the design will become a real model and whether the announced hardware framework will be retained.
