HBO released a new trailer for the Harry Potter series on September 2, offering extensive footage of Hogwarts. The trailer features Harry meeting Ron and Hermione, the Sorting Hat ceremony, classrooms, corridors, Herbology, wizard’s chess and Quidditch scenes; Hedwig and the troll are also shown. The eight-episode first season will premiere on HBO on December 25, 2026, and will be available to watch on HBO Max. While the first teaser in March focused on the Dursleys and the wizarding world, the new video puts the emphasis on Hogwarts. The series adapts J.K. Rowling’s seven-book series; the first season tells the story of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone across eight episodes. Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout star in the leading roles. HBO announced that subsequent seasons will cover the other books.
Why it matters
The new teaser shows that the series will focus not only on Harry’s introduction to the wizarding world but also on his daily life at Hogwarts and the school’s routines. Spreading the first book across eight episodes indicates that this adaptation will tell the story within a season-based structure rather than compressing it into the length of a single film. For viewers familiar with the series through the books, this choice raises the question of which events and character relationships will be expanded and to what extent. HBO’s announcement that subsequent seasons will cover the other books also shows that the series has been positioned from the outset as part of a narrative plan spanning seven books; however, it has not yet been explained how this plan will be implemented in later seasons.
