In the corruption investigation conducted by the Kırıkkale Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office into Yahşihan Municipality, prosecutorial questioning has been completed for 35 suspects, including former mayors Ahmet Sungur and Osman Türkyılmaz.
- 15 suspects were remanded in custody.
- 2 suspects were placed under house arrest.
- 18 suspects were released subject to judicial control.
A judicial control order was also issued for a suspect who is being held in a correctional institution for another offense, while efforts to apprehend a fugitive suspect are ongoing. As part of the investigation, arrest warrants were issued for 37 people on September 24, and 35 suspects were apprehended in simultaneous operations conducted in 4 provinces.
Why it matters
The differing decisions show that the same judicial measure was not applied to all suspects in the case and that the judicial process is proceeding separately based on each individual’s circumstances. The house arrest and judicial control decisions, as alternatives to detention, present a picture in which not all those covered by the investigation were sent to a correctional institution. The decision issued for the suspect being held in a correctional institution for another offense constitutes a separate aspect showing that the individuals’ existing legal circumstances in the case were also taken into account. The clearest uncertainty in the process is whether the fugitive suspect will be apprehended and, if so, how the proceedings in the case will be completed. The completion of prosecutorial questioning indicates that the investigation has entered the judicial assessment stage.
Background
Yahşihan is not a new name in the FikirPilot archive: we published a news report mentioning the name in the last 90 days; that article is dated September 25, 2026.
